First: Qalqalah and its Letters
القلقلة: هي اضطراب الحرف في مخرجه عند النطق به ساكنًا فيُسمع له نبرة قوية ، وحروف القلقلة خمسة، مجموعة في عبارة: (قطب جد)، وهي: (القاف والطاء والباء والجيم والدال)، وقد مرّ سابقًا أن سبب القلقلة هو اجتماع صفتي الجهر والشدة في حروفها، فالجهر يمنع جريان النفس، والشدة تمنع جريان الصوت، فحروف القلقلة الخمسة لا يجري معها نفس ولا صوت عند نطقها ساكنة؛ حيث ينضغط صوتها في مخارجها، فكان لا بد من قلقلتها حتى تظهر أصواتها ويتميز بعضها عن بعض .
Second: Levels of Qalqalah
- 1 – القلقلة الصغرى: وذلك إذا كان الحرف المقلقل وسط الكلمة أو الكلام، ولم يكن مدغمًا:
- أ – مثال الحرف المقلقل وسط الكلمة: ﴿يَقۡضِي﴾، ﴿يَجۡعَلُونَ﴾.
- ب – مثال الحرف المقلقل وسط الكلام حال الوصل: ﴿لِيُنفِقۡ ذُو﴾، ﴿قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ﴾.
- 2. Medium Qalqalah: This occurs when stopping at on a Qalqalah letter at the end of a word, provided it is not doubled (without Shaddah), such as: ﴿فَالِقُ﴾.²
- 3. Major Qalqalah: This occurs when stopping on a Qalqalah letter at the end of a word, and the letter is doubled (i.e., has Shaddah), such as: ﴿ٱلْحَجَّ﴾
There are three levels of Qalqalah:
Third: Important Notes
- 1. The reciter must beware of ending the sound of Qalqalah with a Hamzah when stopping at the Qalqalah letter, such as: ﴿أَحَدٌ﴾ being recited as (Aḥadʾ), or ﴿ٱلصَّمَدُ﴾ being recited as (Aṣ-Ṣamadʾ). ³
- 2. The reciter must avoid cutting off the sound of the Qalqalah letter from the following letters in the middle of a word just to try to clarify the Qalqalah, as in: (ليقضى)(Liyuq—ḍā), (يبصرون )(Yub—ṣirūn)
- 3. The reciter must avoid mixing the sound of the Qalqalah letter with the sound of a short vowel of a neighboring letter, such as mixing it with the Kasrah in: ﴿إِبْرَٰهِۧمَ﴾, or with the Dammah in: ﴿تُبْتُمْ﴾
- 4. The reciter must ensure clarifying Qalqalah when two Qalqalah letters meet, as in stopping at: ﴿ٱلْعَبْدُ﴾, ﴿صِدْقٍ﴾, and also when a Qalqalah letter is followed by another non-voweled(Sakin) letter, such as in stopping at: ﴿ٱلْقَدْرِ﴾, ﴿فَٱدْعُ﴾.⁴
